Eric Draitser of http://StopImperialism.org provides his commentary (Feb. 2, 2016) on the US elections the morning after the Iowa Caucuses. Draitser explains that the US political system is controlled by one single political class subordinate to the financial elites on Wall St, and that the entire election process is mere political theater designed to give Americans the illusion that they have a choice in who rules over them.
Eric Draitser of http://StopImperialism.org gives his analysis of the current situation in Venezuela based on his observations and experiences in the country for the elections of December 6, 2015. He explains the importance of Venezuela for Latin America and the anti-imperialist, anti-colonial struggle, illustrating why the Empire and its local proxies want to destabilize the country. Draitser highlights some of the tactics used by the right wing, the rightward shift in Latin America, and the geopolitics of the region. All this and a lot more in this 20 minute presentation.
Eric Draitser of http://StopImperialism.org appears on CPR Sunday with security analyst Mark Sleboda, and broadcaster Don DeBar to discuss the latest global developments. The conversation opens with a short discussion of the US presidential race and the campaigns of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump. Eric, Mark, and Don spend the majority of the hour discussing the latest round of Syria peace talks and contrasting that to the situation on the ground where the Syrian Arab Army continues to make gains. They discuss the Kurds and their shifting allegiance to Moscow. Finally, Eric touches on the US attempts to undermine sovereignty in the Great Lakes region of Africa in order to re-establish its hegemony as Africa looks increasingly to China. Much much more as well in this weekly hour long conversation.
Eric Draitser of StopImperialism.org provides his commentary (Jan. 30, 2016) on the Syria peace talks just beginning in Geneva. Draitser explains that the negotiations cannot be taken seriously given both the demands of the Salafist ‘opposition’ as well as the reality on the battlefield where Syria’s armed forces are making gains. He notes that these talks are merely the precursor to later negotiations, and that the US will attempt to shape facts on the ground to prevent a united Syria from emerging from this war. All this and much more in this interview.
This week Eric sits down with political analyst and writer Pascal Robert to discuss author Ta-Nehisi Coates’ recent attacks on Bernie Sanders and what they tell us both about Coates and the presidential election. Eric and Pascal discuss the issues of race and class, and why interrogating those issues is critical to examining Coates’ recent writings, as well his individual social position in relation to the power structure. The second half of the show is an in depth dialogue about a variety of issues related to the 2016 campaign including whether Bernie Sanders actually has a chance to win, the outcome the political and financial establishment are pushing for, Hillary’s scandal-plagued campaign, and any potential unexpected developments between now and primary season. All this and much more on CounterPunch Radio this week.
